/img/blog/IMG_0381.JPGCedarfield Administrator - Wednesday, December 07, 2016

Team Cedarfield was on the move Saturday morning, November 5, stepping it up to help raise awareness and funds to fight Alzheimer's disease. Raising over $15,000 to benefit the Greater Richmond Chapter, Alzheimer's Association, Team Cedarfield came in in third as Top Team Fundraiser. Together we walked, and even danced, to help support this event.

Scavenger Hunt

Cedarfield Administrator - Thursday, April 28, 2016

Cedarfield CCRC Scavenger HuntCedarfield residents were certainly put to the test by Jay Quel, director of Facilities Management at Cedarfield. What does a one-inch sprig of Juniperus Virginiana, a Dining comment card, Cedarfield’s Cornerstone location, and a cancelled postage stamp worth 32 cents have in common? All were included in the 20 riddles and questions created by Jay to provide a challenging and competitive contest. Elvira Szigeti and Charlotte Branson were the winners! Note: No one knows Cedarfield, its history, and all the little nuances of the community better than Jay Quel. He is a pioneer himself; being a part of the original Cedarfield staff at preconstruction through opening.

Evolution of Departments

Cedarfield Administrator - Wednesday, April 27, 2016

Formation of Cedarfield DepartmentsWhich department has been around the longest? That was the question asked by many at the display done by all Cedarfield departments, explaining how and when they evolved at Cedarfield. Residents enjoyed talking to employees and learning (and seeing) interesting information. By the way, Marketing was the first – starting in 1992!

Destination Cedarfield – 1996

Cedarfield Administrator - Thursday, April 21, 2016

Marketing hosted a “trip back in time,” for residents and guests, taking them on a journey back to 1991 when Cedarfield was in the early concept stage through its opening in September 1996. Artifacts, memorabilia, and fabulous photography displayed a preconstruction campus in 1991 through construction. A lot of memories were shared by pioneer residents and staff!

Cedarfield Cases of Love Suitcase Drive

/img/blog/totes and suitcases.jpgCedarfield Administrator - Friday, December 18, 2015

How many pieces of luggage do YOU have in your garage or attic? Is there a Barbie or Spiderman backpack hidden in a closet, long forgotten by your child, never to be used again? How can these items be put to good use once more?

Cases of Love SuitcasesIt's called Cases of Love. Through the month of November, residents and staff worked together to collect over 130 gently-used suitcases, duffle bags, carry-on bags and backpacks for donation to various local shelters, foster care agencies and Virginia United Methodist Family Services. Just imagine someone with no home, moving from shelter to shelter with only a plastic trash bag to carry their clothes and most prized possessions. This collection drive provided a great opportunity to put these suitcases and bags "back in service."

Additionally, Cedarfield collected and donated more than 100 reusable grocery and tote bags to a local food pantry to use in carrying items home.

Giving Back to the Community

/img/blog/volunteer.jpgCedarfield Administrator - Thursday, December 03, 2015

Driven 2 Destiny Outreach Center is a non-profit providing outreach and resources to people and families experiencing temporary set-backs due to unemployment, illness or other life-changing events. The center provides vocational training, parenting classes and more. They also offer Christmas Camps that give children a safe place to spend the day when school is closed for holiday break.

Volunteer OpportunitiesThe center requested art supply donations for the children to use during their Christmas Camps. Cedarfield’s Volunteer Coordinator, Trish, worked with the Art Director, Brenda, to collect any unneeded art supplies from the community. They put together two medium sized boxes of various items to donate. Trish also gathered over 20 jackets from the Cedarchest, Cedarfield’s secondhand shop, to donate to Driven 2 Destiny’s Winter Coat Giveaway on December 21.
